Corporate Reporting

Corporate Reporting (CR)

Our view is that CR is the hardest ACA exam. To pass the CR exam, students need broad and in-depth financial reporting knowledge, as well as excellent exam technique to be able to deal effectively with overlapping sub-requirements, long audit scenarios and performance analysis tasks.

All of our CR tuition options teach the essential brought forward Professional Level content as well as the frequently examined advanced areas (e.g. financial instruments, share-based payments, pensions, deferred tax and groups). Tuition is extremely exam focused and once a technical subject has been taught, we will develop your technique by teaching you exactly how to read, interpret and analyse the exam paper, before showing you how to structure and type your answer for each of the three CR questions. The three CR questions are very different from one another so we have devised the optimal exam strategy for each. The exam techniques you will be taught are those which enabled your tutor to win several prestigious ICAEW prizes and this tuition approach has resulted in us consistently achieving pass rates above the ICAEW average.

A small sample of our student feedback is included below:

The course is an excellent pace, with early exposure to exam style questions, allowing you to practice the exam technique early on. Kieran is incredibly approachable, encouraging and has a unique ability to explain challenging concepts. I would highly recommend Kieran to any ACA students!

Lucy (CR student who passed all her exams first time with us, including 84% for CR)

Kieran’s exam technique helped demystify the fear of answering the question and the way he taught us how to structure answers meant we went in with an advantage. With that structure there is no time to waffle and each requirement can be tackled efficiently. Kieran focused on the key areas, everything was made simple and I understood things clearly. College and even the textbook seem to over complicate even the simplest of things. The open book notes were super helpful as well as the slides, I used them for both CR and SBM. I fully intend on recommending you, best money I have spent. I always thought accounting was actually my worst subject, in certificate I got 62 and FAR I got 59. But in corporate reporting I got 70!

Wes (CR student who passed first time with 70%

The focus on past papers was immensely helpful – knowing how to tackle a question step by step and recognising what the questions require through familiarity, definitely made the actual exam easier. Breaking down the requirement into smaller chunks was really useful and made the process less daunting – knowing that there were always easier marks available to “get in the bag” and focus on these rather than more technical “top end” marks was a strategy that I was happy to apply. The notes provided were really good – It was a really good summary to flick to when revising and in the exam. I would recommend the course to other students without a doubt. The class size is perfect, the notes were really helpful and I received the best advice which I believed made the difference.

Werda (CR resit student)

I passed both 😄!! Corporate reporting 76 & Case 56.

Can't thank you enough, absolutely no way I'd have passed without your teaching and guidance! Can't believe I am done with ACA exams now! In a little bit of shock ! This day seemed very far away when I first came to you on the back of 3 MI fails!

Ben (CR student who passed all his exams first time with us)

The proformas are great, especially the ones for consolidation. The slides and audit little booklet are good summary of all the topics, much better than Kaplan’s workbook. One of the big challenges for the CR exam is to apply the knowledge to the questions as the questions are integrated - the tuition focus on exam technique really helped with this. It is a really intensive course but I enjoyed it.

Flora (CR resit student)

Kieran's exam technique is the most simple and effective out of all I have tried and tested over the years.
Tuition was much simpler to digest and understand compared to the big tuition providers.
The learning materials and webinars were also easy to revise and learn off by heart.
I would strongly recommend ACA Masters as Kieran has helped me not only with technique but eased my exam nerves - so the best of both!

Jaisal (CR student who passed first time with us)

Kieran was a key part to me passing my CR exam. He broke down the key areas that are fundamental to passing the exam and taught them in a way that was far easier to digest than a classroom college setting. I have already booked in for Case Study tuition and have no doubt he will be a massive help once again. Thanks a lot!

Marcus (CR student who passed first time with us)

Kieran's CR teaching style is very exam focused and builds confidence through his teaching style by breaking down exam questions which look complex into logical, structured answers. We were able to cover a large volume of information in a short amount of time, whilst feeling that I was able to retain all the knowledge that we covered in class. The lessons most definitely helped gain crucial marks in my exam.

I am so happy that I chose to take your CR course over any well established big names in the market. Your style of delivering the course is unique and very easy to follow. I felt your course was especially tailor made for me.

Tuition Options

To get you through your CR exam, we offer we offer classroom tuition, online tuition and one-to-one tuition. It is possible to combine different methods of tuition.

CR Classroom Course - London*

Our CR course comprises four classes which are held on Saturdays in central London. Each class focuses on a set of frequently examined topic areas and you will be taught: the key technical concepts; the most effective way to read, analyse and work through the exam paper; the key things to look out for in exam questions; how and when to use your open book notes; and most importantly, the specific technique you should use when generating points and typing your answer in the exam.

Tuition is extremely exam focused and we will work exclusively with past paper questions from recent exams, covering each type of CR question to ensure that you get up to the required standard as soon as possible – rather than wasting time with ‘warm-up’ questions.

Our CR Master Plan categorises all the past exam questions by topic, so that after each class you can go and practice your newly acquired exam technique skills on similar questions and watch your marks drastically improve (hopefully you will join our growing list of prize winners!)

You will also be coached on how to study effectively, how to structure your revision and be guided as to what you need to do to pass the Advanced Level exams with strong marks.

The classes are structured as follows:

  1. Assets, Leases, Financial Instruments, Hedging and Performance Reporting

  2. Share-Based Payments, Pensions, Tax and Audit Risks and Procedures

  3. Group Accounting and Group Auditing

  4. Group Accounting for Foreign Subsidiaries and 'Unusual' Audit Questions

In advance of the course, you will be sent access to our online FAR and AA revision classes which cover the essential brought forward content from Professional Level. This enables class time to be spent on the advanced areas and exam technique development.

Tuition Fees

There are two payment options for the CR classroom course.

Option 1: Pay As You Go

Tuition fees are £225 per class.

Option 2: Full Course

For students attending all 4 classes, the tuition fee is reduced to £195 per class.

Therefore, the full cost of the course is £780.

The full course includes:

- Access to our online CR classes which can be used as a revision resource (see below).

- Access to our online FAR and AA classes as most need a refresher on the brought forward content.

- Open Book Notes for use in the exam (see below).

- Our CR Master Plan: a detailed step-by-step study plan (see below).

Please contact us here if you wish to book.

Tuition is held in central London on Saturdays. Each class has a maximum of 15 students. This small group format ensures that the tutor can dedicate sufficient attention to each individual student, whilst at the same time building a collaborative learning environment where questions can be freely asked. This small group format has proved highly effective for our current and former students and is a contributing factor to our exceptionally high student pass rate. Students are also encouraged to act as ‘study buddies’ outside of formal tutoring hours.

*Please note that all 2020 courses will be taking place online due to COVID-19. Online tuition operates in exactly the same way as traditional classroom tuition. Our online classroom software uses video conferencing, screen sharing, digital whiteboards and electronic ICAEW Question Banks. Many students prefer online tuition as it saves travel costs and time.

Online CR Course - Live

Our online tuition option is structured in the same way as our classroom course and comprises four classes which are held on weekday evenings (5.30pm UK time).

Our online classroom software uses video conferencing, screen sharing, virtual whiteboards and ICAEW computer based exam software. Many students prefer online tuition as it saves travel costs and time.

Tuition Fees

There are two payment options for the online course.

Option 1: Pay As You Go

Tuition fees are £150 per class.

Option 2: Full Course

For students attending all 4 classes, the tuition fee is reduced to £130 per class.

Therefore, the full cost of the course is £520.

Please contact us here if you wish to book.

A sample from one of our online CR classes is included below.

Online CR Course - Recorded

As our live CR courses are nearly always fully booked, our prize-winning Senior ACA Tutor Kieran Doe has recorded an online video course. The online course teaches the same content and exam techniques as the live courses. Many students prefer the recorded online course to live tuition as each class can be viewed as many times as you need to ensure that you have mastered the topic. The course also offers a lower cost option whilst yielding the same benefits as live tuition.

Each class focuses on a frequently examined topic and teaches the key technical concepts in a simplified way before demonstrating the optimal exam technique by working through recent past exam questions in full. You will be taught the most efficient way to read, interpret and analyse the exam paper and most importantly, the specific technique you should use when generating points and typing your answer in the exam. This includes advice on how to make effective use of your open book notes when answering questions.

Having understood exactly how you should be approaching a particular type of CR exam question, you can then go and attempt similar past exam questions to put these prize-winning exam technique skills to the test and watch your marks drastically improve - hopefully you will join our growing list of prize winners! Our CR Master Plan (see below) categorises all the past exam questions by topic to make it easy for you to practice similar questions after each class. This enables you to conquer CR by mastering one area at a time.

The course is structured so that it covers each examinable area and each type of CR exam question. As there is a substantial amount of assumed knowledge for most CR topics, we have included our FAR tutorials as part of the course. We suggest that you watch the classes in the order set out below. However, if you are already comfortable on a particular topic then you may want to skip the FAR revision class.
