What is the best way to study using your course?
Start from the beginning of the course. After each class, practise the other questions which also examined that topic so that you can master one topic at a time. You should also read the ICAEW Workbook for further detail on the topic and review examiner comments to identify common mistakes made by students.
Should I practice questions after each class?
Yes. Practicing questions after each class is essential. This helps you master one topic at a time and apply our prize-winning exam techniques as demonstrated by the tutor.
How early should I start preparing for an exam?
This depends on your existing knowledge, study speed, work commitments and personal circumstances. As a general guide, if you can study evenings and weekends and take 1–2 weeks of leave before the exam, you should aim to start at least two months before the exam.
Do I need to know every small technical point?
No. Some ACA exams include a large amount of technical content, and not every niche point is equally important. Our courses focus on the key technical areas and exam technique needed to score very well. The ICAEW Workbook can be used for further detail on all the topics.
What should I do if I fail an exam?
Do not be too disheartened. Many strong students fail an ACA exam before passing. We recommend starting again from the beginning of the video course, practising the questions for each topic, and reading the ICAEW answers and examiner comments carefully. You should also read the ICAEW Workbook for each topic to reinforce your learning and ensure that you have fully understood the topic.
Have should I structure a study plan/my exam preparation?
We have made several videos on this on the Exam Tips page of our website.
