World Cup downhill winner Erik Guay (Mont-Tremblant, QC) along with Patrick Biggs (Orleans, ON), Ryan Semple (Montreal, QC) and Julien Cousineau (Lachute, QC) will spend part of next week training at the Athletic Conditioning Centre in Nepean, ON.
Head Conditioning Coach Matt Price said the athletes will be refocusing on dryland techniques after spending the last several weeks on snow in New Zealand.
“With the Olympics just months away, our training program is focused on leaving no stone unturned. We know how competitive our sport is and how hundredths of a second can be the difference between a podium and a fourth place finish,” said Price.
“The Athletic Conditioning Centre allows us to utilize one of the best sport-specific training facilities in the country to further refine the preparation of our men’s ski racers and be in the best possible condition once the World Cup season begins,” he said.
Canada’s men’s alpine ski team spent most of the previous three weeks at an on-snow training camp in New Zealand.
Specialists in the technical disciplines of slalom and giant slalom will return to New Zealand later this month while the speed skiers have on-snow camps in Chile in starting in early September.
It’s all in preparation for the start of the FIS World Cup season and 2010 Olympic Winter Games.
The World Cup alpine ski racing season is scheduled to begin in late October with men’s and ladies giant slalom races in Sölden, AUT. The men’s team opens the World Cup speed season with a super-G and downhill at the Bombardier Lake Louise Winterstart in Lake Louise, AB Nov. 28 and Nov. 29.
MEDIA AVAILABILITY: There will be media availability with the Men’s team from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 25, 2009. Media interview requests can be e-mailed in advance to kmarr@canski.org.
