BACKGROUND
Co-sponsored by Karbon and the Sun Peaks Ski Club the Champion of Champions annual award was introduced in 2003 to recognize the outstanding athletic achievement of one man and one woman at the National Masters competition level. The prestigious award also highlights the most important National Points Masters competition of the year.
AWARDS
- Karbon: Canadian Alpine Ski Team (CAST) Athletic wear.
- Sun Peaks Alpine Club: Free race entry fees for the following year.
OBJECTIVES
- To encourage athletes of all ages to compete to the best of their ability.
- To generate stronger competition for the overall championship titles in all age groups.
- To create a high performance benchmark among age group champions.
ELIGIBILITY GUIDELINES
- Masters National Competitors who won the triple-combined in their age class.
- Athletes cannot win this award in two consecutive years.
- The male and female winners must be from different provinces.
SELECTION PROCESS
- Chart total race points and age class of champions (separate chart for men and women)
- Rank the athletes against the Trend Line of the overall champions' results (the trend line generally expects younger racers to be faster, but allows anyone to win if they "beat the curve").
- Verify the eligibility of the top male and female performers. If they are both from the same province, the male or female with the highest margin against the trend line shall win. The winner in the opposite sex will then be the person with the next highest margin who meets all of the eligibility guidelines.
